63 new COVID-19 cases take overall tally in Puducherry past 800 mark

Puducherry, Jul 2 () Puducherry reported 63 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the overall tally of infections in the union territory past the 800 mark.

Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar told reporters here that the 63 positive cases were identified after testing 583 samples.

The new infections in the last 24 hours ending 10 a.m. on Thursday took the overall count of coronavirus cases in Puducherry to 802.

He said while 60 of the 63 new patients were admitted to hospitals in Puducherry including the government-run Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (52 cases) and centrally sponsored JIPMER (eight), the remaining three were admitted to the Government GH in Karaikal region.

Puducherry has 421 of the 459 active cases followed by Karaikal (28), Yanam (2) and Mahe (8), the Health department Director said.

Mohan Kumar said 331 patients were treated and discharged and the fatalities remained at 12 as no death was reported in the last couple of days. Cor SS
