Coronavirus: Bring back stranded seafarers, GFP tells Goa govt

Panaji, Apr 10 () The Goa Forward Party on Fridayasked the Pramod Sawant government to bring back thousands ofseafarers of the state stranded in foreign countries due tothe novel coronavirus outbreak.

In a memorandum to Governor Satya Pal Malik, GFP chiefVijai Sardesai said the state government should approach theMinistry of External Affairs for the evacuation and meanwhileset up quarantine and testing facilities here for them ontheir return.

"The Goa government should press the External AffairsMinistry to immediately conduct a risk assessment surveythrough their concerned embassies and consulates and prepare aviable rescue plan with the help of the military experts, ifneeded," the letter said.

The GFP letter said Mormugao Port should be made thedisembarkation point with quarantine facilities for Goans.

The Sawant government has earlier claimed there areover 7,000 seafarers from the state stranded in differentparts of the world. RPSBNM BNM
