COVID-19 lockdown: Four held for assaulting cop in Maha

Thane, Apr 9 () Four persons, including a vegetablevendor and his two sons, were arrested for allegedlyassaulting a policeman at Murbad in Maharashtra's Thanedistrict amid the COVID-19 lockdown, the police said onThursday.

The policeman, who was deployed at a junction inSaralgaon, spotted a crowd gathered at vegetable vendor RameshShingole's shop on Wednesday, the station house officer ofMurbad police station said.

When the policeman requested him to shut the shop toprevent crowding, the vendor and his sons allegedly abused andattacked him, the official said, adding that the injuredpoliceman was rushed to a government hospital.

Shingole, his sons Dhanaji and Dighambar, and SudhamGagde were arrested and charged under sections 353 (assault todeter public servant from discharge of his duty) and otherrelevant provisions of the IPC and Disaster Management Act, hesaid. CORARU ARU
