Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal says another 1200 ICU beds will be available in the national capital, but it will take at least a week

• Delhi has 92,358 active COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday and hospitals are brimming with patients.
• Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told news agency ANI that hardly any ICU beds are available in the city.
• Kejriwal also shared an update on the upcoming ICU beds being built in the city.

India’s national capital Delhi is burning. Hospital beds are a scarcity, as people line up outside their gates waiting for a bed. Doctors continue to stress that only patients who require immediate hospitalisation should come to the hospital.

Delhi has 92,358 active COVID-19 cases and hospitals are brimming with patients.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told news agency ANI that hardly any ICU beds are available in the city.

Kejriwal has also shared they are working on arranging another 500 beds in Delhi on ‘war footing’ near GTB hospital.


He also said that in Ramlila Maidan (ground) near Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan hospital, another 500-bed ICU setup is being built.


However, all of this won’t be available immediately. Kejriwal said that it will be ready only by May 5.

On Monday, the Sardar Patel COVID centre in Chattarpur, Delhi built by Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) with 500 beds was opened for the public. Kejriwal today said that another 200 beds will be added there soon.
