Haryana announces weekend lockdown — all shops and offices to remain shut on Saturday and Sunday

  • Haryana’s Health Minister, Anil Vij, announced a state-wide weekend lockdown on Twitter.
  • According to him, all offices and shops — except those serving essential items — will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Haryana’s announcement comes on the heels on Punjab announcing it will be imposing a night curfew.
As the number of coronavirus cases in Haryana continue to grow, the state is going under lockdown on the weekends. Haryana’s health minister, Anil Vij, took to Twitter to announce that all shops and offices, other than those which provide essential items like groceries, will remain closed on Saturday and Sunday.


He did not disclose how long the lockdown will last. However, the development comes on the heels of Punjab announcing the return of its night curfew from 7:00 pm to 5:00 pm all week round.


Yesterday, on August 20, Haryana recorded its highest single-day spike of 996 new COVID-19 cases. Haryana’s total tally of coronavirus patients stands at 50,926 with 578 dead till now.
