Two workers fell into a chocolate tank on Thursday, prompting an emergency rescue operation at the Mars M&M factory in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, according to local news station WHTM.

According to the report, rescuers were forced to cut a hole into the tank to help the workers exit the tank. The tank was partially filled with chocolate at the time of the incident.

The two individuals were brought to a local hospital and their conditions are unknown as of Friday.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, a spokesperson told Insider.

"OSHA is investigating the incident that occurred at the Mars Wrigley Factory in Lancaster County," Leni Fortson, Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Labor told Insider in a statement. "The two workers were performing maintenance inside the tank when they became trapped."

OSHA has six months to investigate the matter and release its finding, the spokesperson added.

A Mars spokesperson told WHTM that they were "extremely grateful for the quick work of the first responders."

The factory did not immediately respond to Insider's request for information.
