  • Khalil Mack is now the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
  • Mack was traded to the Chicago Bears on Saturday, and agreed to a six-year, $141 million extension with the team just hours later.
  • The record-setting deal comes just a day after Aaron Donald set a previous high mark with his extension with the Los Angeles Rams.

Khalil Mack's holdout paid off.

Just hours after a shocking trade sent the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year from the Oakland Raiders to the Chicago Bears, the Bears reportedly gave Mack a monster, six-year extension worth $141 million that will make him the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

The deal comes just a day after Aaron Donald set a new high mark for defensive players, signing a similar six-year extension with the Los Angeles Rams worth $135 million that included $87 million in guaranteed money.

Mack was the centerpiece of the Raiders defense and comes to the Bears in the midst of an offseason spending spree in Chicago that has brought in talent including wide receivers Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel and tight end Trey Burton. Chicago gave up two first-round draft picks in order to bring Mack to the Bears, and with the extension, made clear that they don't want the perennial Pro-Bowler leaving any time soon.

The Bears open the season on September 6 with a trip to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers.
