LeBron James has agreed to a new 3-year, $100 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

James will make $31 million in the first year of the deal, according to the report. That will make him the highest paid player in the NBA for the first time in his career.

In 2017-18, his salary will "top" $33 million, and will be the highest single-season salary in NBA history. Michael Jordan made $33.1 million in his final season with the Chicago Bulls.

James had conspicuously taken his free agency well past when most free agents had signed new contracts. There was little or no chance of James signing with another team, but it did raise questions about what type of demands James was making of the organization beyond just the contract.
