Oct 24, 2014, 22:13 IST

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio held a press conference at the Office of Emergency Management in Brooklyn on Friday to discuss the Ebola patient diagnosed at Bellevue Hospital the day before. De Blasio stressed there is "no cause for alarm" and people do not need to change their "daily routine."

"We are fully prepared to handle Ebola," de Blasio said.

The patient, Dr. Craig Spencer, had been treating Ebola patients in Guinea, one of the three countries in West Africa that has seen an epidemic of the disease. He called an ambulance Thursday after checking his temperature and finding a high fever and was brought to Bellevue, one of the city's hospitals that has been specially designated for dealing with cases of the virus.

The press conference is ongoing and this post will be continuously updated.
