Modi condemns killing of e-rickshaw driver for opposing public urination; directs authorities for strict action

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the killing of an e-rickshaw driver in Delhi who had stopped two men from urinating in public.

PM has directed the authorities to punish the culprits, and has also sanctioned Rs.1 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund as ex-gratia to the deceased’s family.

As per an official spokesman, Ravindra Kumar, a 32-year-old e-rickshaw driver was beaten to death by a dozen people after he stopped two of them from urinating in pubic advocating the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan’. The incident took place outside the GTB Nagar Metro Station.

"The prime Minister condemned the incident and directed the authorities to bring to book and punish the culprits for committing such inhuman act," the spokesman added.

Kumar was beaten to death last night allegedly by a dozen men after he objected to two of them urinating, according to the police. The assaulters had consumed liquor bought from a nearby shop and were urinating at the gate of the metro station. After being stopped, they threatened Kumar of dire consequences and returned with several other people who beat him to death.
