Babarpur Delhi assembly constituency candidate names

The last assembly elections in the Babarpur seat for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha was held in 2015. In this election, the winner was AAP’s Gopal Rai who scored 75928 votes and defeated the BJP candidate Naresh Gaur who got 40440 votes. Earlier, Naresh Gaur of BJP had won in two consecutive elections and held this seat from 2008 to 2015. His vote score in 2008 elections was 31954. He got 34180 votes in the 2013 elections. Earlier in 1993 elections and in 1998 elections, Naresh Gaur had won this seat on behalf of BJP and had become the MLA two times consecutively holding the seat from 1993 to 2003. In both these elections, the runner up candidates were INC contestants.

Babarpur state assembly constituency falls within the jurisdiction of the North East Delhi parliamentary seat of Delhi. Delhi Vidhan Sabha has 70 assembly seats in total. The present ruling term of Delhi Legislative Assembly will end on 22 February 2020 and hence all the 70 constituencies including Babarpur will go for assembly election polls in February 2020. The upcoming elections will decide who will become the MLAs of these seats to form the next government post elections. The total number of electors in the Babarpur constituency is 1,92,358 made of 1,05,238 males, 87,092 females, and 28 third gender voters.

In 2003, Vinay Sharma of INC was selected from this seat by the voters for the Delhi assembly. He defeated Naresh Gaur of the BJP in this election. Their vote scores were 25630 and 21371 respectively.
