Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que

604 Union Street, Brooklyn

700 West 125th Street, New York

Clinton says that the best Dinosaur experience is at the original outpost in Syracuse, New York, but you can still chow down on her favorite barbecue in the Harlem and Brooklyn locations. Dinosaur is known for its ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, served up with classic sides like mac 'n' cheese or fried green tomatoes. Portions are hearty and ambience is low-key.

Red Rooster

Red Rooster

310 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York

Also in Harlem, Red Rooster is one of New York City's trendiest soul food spots. The upscale take on Northern and Southern comfort food dishes was dreamt up by star Swedish-Ethiopian chef Marcus Samuelsson, who's created a buzzy restaurant with a menu chock-full of crowd pleasers: spicy meatballs, fried chicken and waffles, corn bread, sweet potato doughnuts. Clinton says that Red Rooster is one of her husband's "beloved go-to restaurants", too.

Hillstone

Hillstone

378 Park Avenue South, New York

At Hillstone, Clinton says that the veggie burgers are just as good as regular ones — which is important, as Bill Clinton is, in fact, vegan. The Midtown restaurant has a wide-ranging menu, with everything from sushi to salads and steak. It's a New York mainstay that gets solid reviews for its consistently high-quality food.

Rao's

Rao's

455 East 114th Street, New York

Founded in 1896, Rao's is one of New York City's most revered dining establishments. It's also one of the hardest to get into. A classic red-sauce-Italian restaurant with only 10 tables, the Harlem gem dishes out staples like massive meatballs, a mean lasagna, and seafood salad in a cozy, old-school environment. There are outposts in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, but this one is the original, with deep ties to the Italian community. It's been continuously family-owned since it opened.
