At least 13 people, including six children and four women, were killed in the US raid that killed the leader of ISIS on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported, citing first responders.

President Joe Biden said on Thursday morning that a military operation in northwest Syria killed Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, the leader of ISIS.

In a statement released on Wednesday, John Kirby, the Pentagon press secretary, described the mission as successful and without US casualties.

"US Special Operations forces under the control of US Central Command conducted a counterterrorism mission this evening in northwest Syria," Kirby said, without naming the target of the raid.

"The mission was successful. There were no US casualties," he said.
