Saina Nehwal Takes India To Uber Cup Semis With 3-0 Victory Over Indonesia

The Indian women’s badminton team scripted history on Thursday night by ensuring at least a bronze medal in the Uber Cup. The match was held at the Siri Fort Sports Complex in New Delhi.

Led by Saina Nehwal, India trounced Indonesia 3-0 in the quarter-final. India will now take on Japan in the semi-final today.

Saina gave India a flying start by beating world No. 23 Lindaweni Fanetri 21-17, 21-10 in the first singles.

World Championship bronze medallist PV Sindhu followed it up with 21-16, 10-21, 25-23 victory over Bellaetrix Manuputty to give India a 2-0 lead.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa won their doubles encounter 21-18, 21-18 against Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari.

Japan, on the other hand, thrashed Denmark 3-0 to proceed to the semi-finals.
