Pichai visited his room in the Nehru hostel of the engineering college and talked about his earlier days in the college when he was ragged, how as a freshman he found his dorm room completely messed around by seniors. He also met with students in the hostel, remembering how he cooked Maggie late in the night. Pichai was surprised and happy to see that everything was just the same.

When studying Metallurgical engineering at IIT Kharagpur, Pichai spent much of his time in the Metallurgical lab so he made it a point to visit the lab and meet with his professors. Pichai also met with the college faculty and finally picked up his distinguished alumnus award.

An emotional Pichai took some more time to walk around all by himself in his abode of over two decades back and made sure he had enough memories to take back to San Francisco.

Later when addressing the students of IIT Kharagpur, he took a trip down memory lane and talked about bunking classes, being ragged by seniors, meeting his now wife Anjali Pchai in the campus and how it was difficult for him in the beginning as he couldn’t speak hindi and even remembered calling somebody “Abey saaley” thinking that’s how people call out to one another... he talked of a life every student in that amphitheatre could relate to and of a life every single person there was inspired by.

As per the Googler as this visit was what Pichai wanted happen for the longest time he was the happiest having finally visited his college.
