As summer heats up, we're all looking for new ways to cool down. And what better way to beat the heat than with a delicious twist on a campfire classic?

I'm talking, of course, about homemade frozen s'mores.

Florida food bloggers Shay and Steph, of the popular Instagram account @soflofooodie, recently shared their recipe for the sweet treat.

Their simple recipe requires just six ingredients, plus a few easy steps.

All you need is vanilla ice cream, Oreo instant pudding, chocolate instant pudding, milk, graham crackers, and marshmallow creme.

To create these homemade frozen s'mores, first you'll need to line the bottom of a pan with your graham crackers. Then, make both of your pudding mixes. Shay and Steph used two cups of milk for the Oreo pudding, and three cups of milk for the chocolate pudding.

Pour the Oreo pudding on one half of the pan, and the chocolate pudding on the other half.

Pop the pan into the freezer for 30 minutes to set.

Meanwhile, mix together a gallon of vanilla ice cream (make sure it's softened) with your marshmallow creme until they've combined.

Then, take your pan out of the freezer and spread the ice cream and marshmallow mixture on top of your pudding layer. To finish it all off, add one more layer of graham crackers and leave it in the freezer overnight. Enjoy!

Shay and Steph told Insider that they first got the idea to make homemade frozen s'mores after Shay's mom texted him to ask if he could whip up the refreshing treat.

She sent along a link to a recipe that used store-bought graham crackers and only one kind of pudding. But the food bloggers wanted to put their own spin on the dish.

"Since we like to make recipes 'our way' any way we can, we decided to do homemade graham crackers and add some Oreo pudding," Shay and Steph told Insider. "We've been wanting to make homemade graham crackers for a while, and this was the perfect recipe to do it with."

For those who'd also like to try their hand at homemade graham crackers, you'll need:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 6 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon

Begin by creaming the butter, sugars, vanilla, and honey in a bowl until they're soft and fluffy. Then, in a separate bowl, mix together the flours, cinnamon, and baking soda. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients until they're combined.

"The mixture is going to look crumbly, but you can use your hands to form it together," the couple advised.

Pour your new mixture onto a silicone baking mat and finish forming until the dough comes together. Separate the dough in half, leaving one batch out. Wrap the other half in plastic wrap and pop it into the fridge.

Take the half of dough that's already out and place a piece of parchment paper on top, rolling it out thin. Transfer the dough and silicone mat to a baking sheet and leave it in the oven for seven to eight minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Then, take your pan out of the oven and mark your rows with a fork before using a pizza cutter to make your rectangles. Pop your crackers into the oven again — this time at 375 degrees Fahrenheit — for five to eight minutes. Once they're ready, repeat these steps with the other half of dough waiting in the fridge.

And if you don't want the extra work, don't fret. Store-bought is fine (in the famous words of Ina Garten).

But Shay and Steph do recommend using two different flavors of pudding, which will add more variety to your homemade frozen s'mores.

"We think using other pudding flavors, such as banana and key lime, would be so good," they said. "You can even switch up the flavor of ice cream. There are so many options!"

With plenty of flavor possibilities, Shay and Steph believe these homemade frozen s'mores will keep you smiling all summer long.

"Summer is all about being outside," the couple said. "And these are the perfect way to cool down while enjoying the day — socially distanced — with family and friends!"
