Hyundai just unveiled its stunning EV to compete with Tesla and Volkswagen - tour the brand-new Ioniq 5

  • The 2022 Ioniq 5 is the first battery-electric car from Hyundai's dedicated EV brand.
  • With the biggest battery and rear-wheel drive, Hyundai estimates it to return about 300 miles.
  • No price was announced at this time, but you can expect them to arrive in the US later this year.

Back in August, Hyundai revealed plans to create a dedicated brand for battery-electric vehicles called Ioniq. This week, the automaker showed off the first model of that brand.

Meet the 2022 Ioniq 5 - a stylish little SUV that comes in either an all-wheel-drive, dual-motor setup or rear-wheel-drive, single-motor setup, according to the announcement. With the rear-motor setup, Hyundai estimates the maximum range to be just under 300 miles.

Size-wise, the Ioniq 5 comes within spitting distance of the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4. Hyundai did not announce pricing at this time but did say that the Ioniq 5 will be available in "selected regions" during the first half of this year.
