Meet the youngest self-made billionaires in India

Company: Zerodha

Nithin and Nikhil Kamath are the wealthiest entrepreneurs under the age of 40 in India with a wealth of ₹24,000 crore. Nithin Kamath, 40, and Nikhil Kamath, 34, co-founded the online trading platform Zerodha, which has grown by leaps and bounds to become India’s largest stockbroker by the number of clients.

Wealth: ₹14,000 crore

Company: Media.net

With a wealth of ₹14,000 crore, 38-year old Divyank Turakhia ranks second in the list. He became a billionaire in 2016, after his company Media.net was sold for nearly $1 billion in 2010. He is currently on a break, setting up a family office and scouting for the next big opportunity.

Wealth: ₹13,100 crore

Company: Udaan

Udaan co-founders Amod Malviya, Sujeet Kumar, and Vaibhav Gupta are the third-richest self-made billionaires under 40. They have witnessed a 274% increase in their wealth led by strong investments in Udaan.

Wealth: ₹7,800 crore

Company: Think & Learn

With a wealth of ₹7,800 cr, Riju Ravindran, 39, of online education platform, Byju’s secured the 6th spot in the list. With Byju’s achieving a $10 billion valuation in August 2020, Riju Raveendran registered a 117% increase in wealth compared to last year. Byju’s ranked third in the Hurun India Unicorn Index 2020.

Wealth: ₹7,500 crore

Company: Flipkart

Flipkart founders Binny Bansal, 37, and Sachin Bansal, 39, hold a whopping ₹7,500 crore. Since their exit from Flipkart, Binny Bansal has been investing in several start-ups as an angel investor and Sachin Bansal has co-founded and is the CEO of Navi, a neo-bank start-up headquartered in Bengaluru.

Wealth: ₹4,500 crore

Company: Oravel Stays

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the hospitality business, globally and it has temporarily affected Oyo’s growth story, thereby declining the wealth of Ritesh Agarwal, 26, by 40% or ₹3,000 cr. With a wealth of ₹4,500 crore, Agarwal is the youngest billionaire in the rich list.

Bhavish Aggarwal, one of the co-founders of ride-hailing company Ola Cabs, has seen a 13% increase in his wealth this year. In July 2020, Ola incentivised Aggarwal and Ankit Bhati by issuing equity shares at a nominal price of ₹10 per share – resulting in a 13% increase in their wealth compared to last year.

Wealth: ₹3,200 crore

Company: Rivigo

Deepak Garg, 39, co-founder and CEO of the logistics company, Rivigo, has a wealth of ₹3,200 crore. In September 2019, KB Global invested ₹35 crore in Rivigo at a valuation of ₹7,593 cr, and the Rivigo entered the Hurun India Unicorn Index 2020.

Wealth: ₹2,900 crore

Company: Improbable Worlds

32-year old Herman Narula, the co-founder and CEO of Improbable Works, has a net worth of ₹2,900 crores, with his wealth rising by 45% increase in the last year. In 2012, Narula co-founded the company with Rob Whitehead and Peter Lipka.

Wealth: ₹2,200 crore

Company: Zomato Media

Deepinder Goyal, the co-founder of the online food delivery platform Zomato, is worth ₹2,200 crore. On the back of the most recent valuation of Zomato, his wealth increased by 16% compared to that of last year. In January 2020, Zomato acquired Uber Eats India in an all-stock transaction. The deal gave Uber 9.99% ownership in Zomato.
