  • President Trump attacked conservative pundit Ann Coulter Saturday in a tweet about his plan for the US-Mexico border wall.
  • Once an ally, Coulter has publicly criticized Trump's failure to secure funding for a border wall, calling him "an idiot."
  • Trump also said that he is "stopping an invasion" as "major parts of the wall are being built."

President Donald Trump lashed out at former ally Ann Coulter Saturday evening, who has criticized him for not being able to secure funding for the US-Mexico border wall.

On Saturday, Trump called Coulter a "wacky nut job" in a tweet touting the supposed progress on the border wall. He also said that "certain Republicans are unwilling to fight."

"Major sections of the wall are being built," he tweeted, adding that he is "stopping an invasion as the wall gets built."

Tension between Coulter and Trump has grown as Coulter has stepped up her public attacks on Trump's challenges with his border-wall plan. Along with Coulter, other conservative pundits like Rush Limbaugh have also spoken out about how the border wall was a key campaign promise.

During the government shutdown in January, Coulter lashed out at Trump, saying that "previous shutdowns have been much more difficult."

Congress has pushed back on Coulter and Limbaugh's comments. "You have two talk-radio hosts who completely flipped the president," Republican Sen. Bob Corker told reporters in January. "And so, do we succumb to tyranny of talk-radio hosts?"

According to Politico, Coulter is scheduled to speak at a lunch in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday near Trump's Mar-a-Lago country club, where Trump is staying through Sunday.
