German auto maker Volkswagen has finally started recalling the previous generation Skoda Superb after the company faced widespread criticism over the diesel emission controversy. The auto maker has started with re-calling Skoda Superb first and will take up the rest.

As per reports, the dealers and the owners have been informed about it.

The previous generation Skoda Superb was running on the 2.0-litre EA 189 diesel engine, which became the core of the problem. The engine came fitted with a cheat device that helped it getting pass the emission norms in the US and European markets. Though in India, the device wasn’t plugged in the engine as according to Indian emission norms the car was “safe” for the environment. The issue to here to be concerned about is “Indian emission norms are way more lenient than that of US or Europe.

Regardless of the fact that the questionable engine got past the Indian emission norms, VW will be updating the engines for consumers in India. This will make VW face enormous compensation cost.
