2 New York City Fourth-Graders Arrested For Allegedly Poisoning Teacher
Two New York City elementary school students were arrested Tuesday after allegedly putting rat poison in their teacher's water bottle, The New York Times reports.
According to CNN, both students have been charged with attempted second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. Although both are in the fourth-grade, one student is 9, and the other is 12.
"My understanding is the 9-year-old wanted to see what the reaction would be ... God knows where kids get these ideas," NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton told The Times.
The teacher reportedly ingested the poisoned water on Monday and became aware of the students' actions after other members of the class told her they put something in her water bottle. She is now recovering in a hospital.
The students attend P.S. 315 in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
