The first primaries in the nation are finally here.

New Hampshire voters headed to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in the first primaries of the 2016 election season.

Democratic presidential candidate and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Republican business mogul Donald Trump are the favorites in their respective parties.

Sanders enjoys a more-than 13-point lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Democratic race, according to the RealClearPolitics average of several recent. Sanders and Clinton are the only two candidates running on the Democratic side after former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) dropped out following last Monday's Iowa caucuses.

Trump holds an even bigger lead on the GOP side: about 17 points over the candidate in second place, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), based on the website's average.
