Louisiana police say one officer was shot in Sunset, a town in southwestern Louisiana.

Trooper Brooks David with the Louisiana State Police told CNN on Wednesday that the officer was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The incident was believed to have started as a domestic disturbance call, State Senator Elbert Guillory (R) said in an interview with TV station KATC-TV.

Two other people were reportedly stabbed a few blocks away from the scene.

The suspect apparently drove a car into the front door of an Exxon gas station, and barricaded himself there, says St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, who spoke to CNN. Several people inside the gas station escaped.

The incident happened days after a Louisiana state trooper was shot in the head during a traffic stop. Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, a 13-year veteran of the department, stopped to help a motorist whose vehicle was stuck in a ditch Sunday near Bell City.

Police say a 54-year-old named Kevin Daigle pulled a sawed-off shotgun on Vincent, shot him in the head and then taunted Vincent, saying "You're lucky you are going to die soon."
