Olympic athletes are complaining about the pollution in Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro, the site of the 2016 Olympics, is hugely polluted. Two athletes have shared a picture of the deplorable conditions around the Brazilian host city.
Finnish sailors Noora Ruskola and Camilla Cedercreutz posted a picture of their boat covered in sludge after sailing it in the waters off the coast of Rio.
"One of those days when your boat looks like a toilet," the team wrote on Facebook. "Took us 45 minutes to wash it off!"
"The water here in Rio was full of oil today," the continued. "It was disgusting to sail in it."
A mutilated body washed up on the shore of Copacabana beach last week.
At least Ruskola and Cedercreutz are planning on attending the games. Several athletes from numerous countries have already announced that they won't be participating in the 2016 games, largely due to fear of the Zika virus. Jason Day, the best-ranked golfer in the world, is one of the most notable athletes to declare he won't be going.
The Rio Olympics start exactly one month from today. Cross your fingers, sports fans.
