According to International Data Corporation (IDC), a leading research firm, HP’s overall market share was 29.5%, up from 20.9% in the first quarter ended March. On the other hand, Dell, which ranked No. 1 in the first quarter with a 23.1% share, was second this time with a 19.1% share. With a 13.9% share, the third place was retained by Lenovo.

With the help of the Tamil Nadu deal, HP's share in commercial notebooks soared to 51.4%. In commercial desktops segment, Dell took over HP, sliding it to the second rank. But HP was No. 1 in consumer desktops and notebooks segment.

IDC also revealed that in the second quarter the overall shipments for PC remained at 2.55 million units, registering a substantial growth of 23.6% over Q1. However, there was a drop of 27.8% over Q2 of last year.
