Here's what you have to earn to be considered middle class in the 50 biggest US cities
BI
In a recent analysis on its Stateline blog, Pew Charitable Trusts found that the middle class has shrunk in every US state between the years 2000 and 2013, the most recent data available.
Pew defines "middle class" as households earning 67%-200% of a state's median income, so we calculated out exactly what that meant for every state.
Why not take it a step further and break it down by city? Using the median household income numbers from the US Census Bureau's 2013 American Community Survey, which Pew used in its analysis, we calculated the income range for the middle class in the 50 largest US metropolitan statistical areas according to Pew's definition.
Below, they're listed in order of 2013 metro area population, according to American Community Survey estimates:
- Colon cancer rates are rising in young people. If you have two symptoms you should get a colonoscopy, a GI oncologist says.
- I spent $2,000 for 7 nights in a 179-square-foot room on one of the world's largest cruise ships. Take a look inside my cabin.
