Malani, who has attended 52 international tattoo conventions, gained fame as a celebrity tattoo artist when he got an opportunity to work with Bollywood celebrities a a decade ago.

Bollywood actors such as Shahrukh Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma have worked with Malani for films and sportsperson like MS Dhoni have also worked with him for advertisement projects.

Business Insider caught up with Malani to discuss what the latest trends in Body Art are when it comes to famous Indians.

Keep it simple.

Malani maintains that tattoos are a form of self expression that shouldn’t be taken lightly as it is permanent. He discourages people to get names done in the spur of the moment.

Malani himself has no visible tattoos because he finds it distracting to his profession. He believes tattoos that break the mould are the most interesting and encourages his patrons to get something unique.

When it comes to celebrities, he notes that they like to keep it simple, “Most celebrities don’t like anything elaborate and like to stick to either names of their parents or children because those relationships are crucial to them.”

Religion still rules.

Milani shuffles between London and Mumbai most of the time and he says that spiritual tattoos remain popular since he has started working. “Religion and spirituality are themes that never go out of style and we have seen that since the past two decades. While the designs can change in terms of style and theme, the characters and inspiration are all derived from faith.”
