Apple to reduce the price of iPhone 5s to Rs 15,000

For a long time, Indians divided mobile users into affluent and average on the basis of the Apple logo on the back of their mobile phones.

However, looks like the logo of a half-eaten Apple will no longer ensure that the user is considered rich, given that the California-based company is planning to make iPhone 5s a little less exclusive.

As per reports, the popular model launched in 2013 might get its price reduced to around Rs 15,000 from the current Rs 18,000; a move planned to expand the user base in the price-sensitive Indian market, ruled by affordable brands like Xiaomi and Motorola.

The company also plans to make iPhone 5s online-exclusive, which means that users won’t be able to buy it from brick and mortar stores.

"Apple wanted to have one iPhone model with an aggressive pricing in India and was banking on the company-certified refurbished models. But now that the proposal has been struck down by the government, it is betting on the iPhone 5s," an executive in the know told ET.
