Be ready to show either your passport or Aadhaar card while booking domestic flights

In coming days, you won’t be able to book a domestic flight without showing either your Aadhar card or passport.

The Indian government is planning to make mandatory for air passengers to have a unique identity to make a flight booking.

Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha said the government wants more people to be covered under the unique ID.

"In the next 90 to 120 days it might not be possible to book an air ticket without either providing some unique ID like PAN, Aadhar or passport. We are trying to see what else we can have as unique ID so that more people are covered," Sinha said.

Presently, flyers have to show their identity card to enter the airport.

The Civil Aviation Ministry has also set up a digital traveller working group to provide suggestions on implementing the scheme.

Within 30 days, the group would come out with a white paper and subsequently, comments from the stakeholders would be sought before finalising the norms, Sinha said.

"A white paper will be given on creating seamless travel, after which comments from public then a decision on this issue. Sinha said those who provide biometric ID should be able to zip through airports.

A draft report will be prepared by a committee within 30 days.
