In an interview with Rolling Stone, Canada's leader disclosed that while he disagrees with Trump on subjects like the environment and foreign policy, he also does not plan to "go out of [his] way" to prove him wrong.
"Obviously, I disagree [with Trump] on a whole bunch, but Canadians expect me to accomplish two things at the same time, which is emphasize where we disagree and stand up firmly for Canadian interests," Trudeau told Rolling Stone.
While some Canadians have criticized Trudeau for not taking a firmer stance against Trump's politics, he said he prefers to maintain "a constructive working relationship" between Canada and the US.
"But we also have a constructive working relationship, and me going out of my way to insult the guy or overreact or jump at everything he says [that] we might disagree with is not having a constructive relationship," said Trudeau.
