Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Indian-American Democratic Congressional candidate based in Illinois, is going to be named as one of the party's emerging leaders during the ongoing Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

The 42-year old is one of the only two Congressional candidates who have been invited on to the DNC stage to be introduced as the party's rising stars or emerging leaders, the other one being Stephanie Murphy from Florida.

If elected in the upcoming elections, Krishnamoorthi would join Ami Bera in the US House of Representatives in the next Congress session from January 2017.

"I know he'll fight hard in Congress to create more good jobs, empower more Americans to start businesses, and help working families afford to put their children through college," Obama had said while endorsing Krishnamoorthi. He has previously worked as the policy director and a senior advisor for Barack Obama's 2004 US Senate campaign, and as an advisor to his 2008 Presidential campaign. Not only that, he was also the Deputy Treasurer of Illinois from 2007 to 2009 under Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias.
