The Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has sent a criminal referral regarding former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe to the US attorney's office in Washington, DC, according to CNN.

Last week, the OIG released a report saying that McCabe "lacked candor" in at least four instances when discussing his decision to authorize disclosures to the media about the FBI's investigation into the Clinton foundation.

McCabe was fired by Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this year, days before he was eligible to retire with a full pension.

The inspector general's office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
