With ₹62.53 crore box office collection, Crew soars high during opening weekend; Charts fresh course for female-led films
Following a soaring takeoff at the box office, the movie Crew, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kriti Sanon and Tabu, has enjoyed a remarkable weekend journey. The heist comedy film, also starring Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma, is directed by Rajesh Krishnan and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Crew embarked on its box office flight with a solid collection of ₹9.25 crore on Friday, taking advantage of the Good Friday holiday. The momentum continued to climb on Saturday with a 5.41% increase, earning ₹9.75 crore.

Come Sunday, Crew soared past the double-digit mark and amassed a notable ₹10.25 crore, taking its domestic earnings up to ₹29.25 crore. Furthermore, it has grossed ₹62.53 crore globally in its opening weekend box office collections, the makers said on Monday.

Despite the bright start, Crew falls slightly behind Kareena Kapoor's previous chick flick Veere Di Wedding, which had garnered an impressive ₹10.7 crore on its opening day back in 2018.

But with that said, these figures are noteworthy, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape, where female-led films have struggled to make a mark at the box office.

As per reports, Crew has hit the screens across 2000 theatres, premiering in over 75 countries and spanning more than 1100 locations worldwide. The estimated budget for the film, covering production and advertising expenses, is reportedly around ₹60 crore.

While Crew has experienced a successful flight so far, the true test lies ahead on Monday. The performance on this crucial day will determine its trajectory in the coming days, especially with ample time and space to dominate the box office.

Upon its release, Crew avoided direct turbulence with Hindi films, although it shared the spotlight with the Hollywood flick Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham.

And with Eid approaching on April 10, new challengers will emerge in the form of Akshay Kumar's 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' and Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan'. Until then, it will be interesting to see the heights Crew manages to reach by capitalising on its momentum.
