ESPN's Doris Burke accomplished the seemingly impossible - she stunned the NBA's biggest curmudgeon, Gregg Popovich
ESPN
NBA coaches are required to answer two questions in between quarters during nationally televised games and no coach hates the experience more than Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs. But on Tuesday he seemingly finally met his match.
ESPN's Doris Burke was tasked with the job of asking Pop the two questions, something she has described as stressful, even when she has good questions. However, when Popovich gave his typical terse answer to the first question ("We didn't score."), Burke swatted it back with the perfect follow-up.
"Think it is in my best interest, Mike, to leave it at that," Burke said to announcer Mike Breen.
Popovich seemed momentarily stunned and possibly impressed.
Burke seems to have found the secret to interviewing the NBA's toughest interview. Two days earlier, she followed up her first question by simply wishing herself a happy Mother's Day.
