Guess who’s going to gain from Ratan Tata’s business expertise next?

Ratan Tata will now mentor technology venture capital firm IDG Ventures India and has joined the advisory board of the company as a senior advisor.

Tata will help the firm in building its portfolio, global expansion, team building and leadership.

He will also, sometimes, attend meetings on strategic matters.

"Tata is an icon when it comes to business leadership in the new age India. His rich experience in building businesses and expanding globally from India is of immense value to our portfolio companies. We are indeed privileged and honoured today," said IDG Ventures Founder Chairman Sudhir Sethi.

IDG Ventures focuses on newborn technology startups and since its inception, the firm has advised investments in 50 companies, committing over Rs 1,000 crore.

IDG has invested in Flipkart, Yatra, Newgen, Lenskart.Com, Vserv, Firstcry.Com, Manthan Software and Zivame.com.

It is noteworthy that Tata, who retired in December 2012, has been making investments in a slew of startups.

He has made personal investments in Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone, Cardekho.com, Paytm, Altaeros Energies and Xiaomi.

Not just e-commerce, Tata also invests in health and women empowerment areas too.
