Here's our first close-up look at Microsoft's holographic computer glasses

May 1, 2015, 05:05 IST

Our correspondents Julie Bort and Matt Weinberger are both at Microsoft's BUILD Conference in San Francisco this week, and they're finally getting their much-awaited demonstration of HoloLens, the company's futuristic computer glasses that superimpose holograms on the world around you.

Microsoft is making reporters leave all cameras and recording devices behind when they do the actual demo, but Matt was able to get a couple close-ups of the HoloLens glasses sitting in a glass case in the waiting area:

These are the first close-up shots we've been able to get - when I was invited to try the glasses back in January, there were no actual units available to photograph, and the prototype was a very early version that included an awkward headset and heavy CPU unit I had to wear around my neck. It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft actually lets reporters use one of these new units, or if they're still demoing the early prototype version.

Check back later this evening for our full impressions.
