Hundreds of English football fans clashed with the French riot police in Marseille on Friday night as the Euro 2016 championship kicked off in Paris.

The fights erupted after the England fans, who have gathered in Marseille ahead of the England Russia game on Saturday night, clashed with locals.

French police report that the incidents started around midnight but that the situation was rapidly brought back under control.
