IN PICS: Devastating images of Assam floods as five more die and 9.26 lakh people bear the after-effects

  • Five people have died in the most recent wave of Assam floods across Dhemaji, Udalguri, Goalpara and Dibrugarh districts, according to the officials of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDM).
  • The total death toll for this year’s flood season now stands at 20.
  • Over 9.26 lakh people are bearing the brunt of the floods with over 68,806 hectares of crop areas reportedly wrecked.
  • Oil India Limited’s (OIL) said that due to the heavy rains over the past few days, its leaking oil well in Baghjan caught fire.
Amidst the surge of COVID-19, over 9.26 lakh people in 2,071 villages of 23 districts in Assam are battling at another front — the annual recurring flood.

According to the officials of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), five people died so far in the newest wave of floods across Dhemaji, Udalguri, Goalpara and Dibrugarh districts. The total death toll for this year’s flood season has hit 20 with another 23 people killed in separate landslides since May 22 in Assam.
