From Pranab Mukherjee to Prince Charles — all the world leaders who tested positive for COVID-19

India’s former President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that he has tested positive for coronavirus and asked his contacts to self-isolate and get tested for the virus. On August 11, he underwent brain surgery to remove a clot at the Army Research & Referral Hospital and is on ventilator support after the procedure, sources told IANS.

India’s Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah on August 2 announced that he has contracted coronavirus. Shah said that he got himself tested after "initial signs" of coronavirus. He said that he is fine but is getting admitted to a hospital on advice of doctors.

He also urged everyone who has come in contact with him in recent days to self-isolate and get themselves tested.

Prince Albert of Monaco, on March 19, said that he tested positive for novel coronavirus. According to the Palace announcement, the prince was in good health when he got infected and was working from his private apartment.

UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health, Suicide Prevention and Patient Safety Nadine Dorries had earlier in March announced that she was self-isolating herself after testing positive for Covid-19. She has since recovered and returned to Parliament on March 24.

On March 13, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's wife, Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, began to show mild flu-like symptoms including a low fever after returning from London. Justin Trudeau self-isolated himself over coronavirus fears.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton announced on March 13 that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Dutton's confirmation came a day after Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were diagnosed with the same virus. Hanks and Wilson were in Australia for a shoot at that time.

Israeli Health Minister Yaakov Litzman went into isolation on April 2 after being diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, his office said, forcing more senior officials into self-quarantine. Litzman, leader of the Jewish ultra-Orthodox party of United Torah Judaism, was in isolation with his wife who has been infected, reports Xinhua news agency.

Russian Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities Vladimir Yakushev and his deputy Dmitry Volkov have tested positive for COVID-19, the TASS news agency reported, citing the ministry.

"I will undergo treatment under the supervision of doctors in one of the city hospitals. I will stay in touch," Yakushev said, Xinhua reported.

On April 30, Russian Prime Minister, Mishustin announced that he had been diagnosed with the coronavirus infection. He was admitted to hospital for treatment, while his duties were assumed by First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, said the TASS News Agency report.

Hours after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that he had tested positive for coronavirus and would work in self-isolation, Health Secretary Matt Hancock also said that he was also infected with the disease.

On March 27, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tested positive for coronavirus but continued to discharge his duties from self-isolation.

The Prime Minister was the second high-profile British leader to test positive for coronavirus after Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, in recent days. Johnson, 55, was taken to St Thomas' hospital, in London, 10 days after testing positive for the virus. He was later discharged from the hospital on April 12.

Britain's Prince Charles tested positive for coronavirus, but is "otherwise in good health", his spokesman said on March 25 Charles was not the first member of the royalty to test positive for COVID-19. Prince Albert of Monaco also tested positive.

After months of downplaying the severity of COVID-19 pandemic, on July 6, Brazil's President, Jair Bolsonaro tested positive. Before being infected, Bolsonaro would shake hands with people in public without wearing a face mask. On July 25, he finally tested negative.
