Lockdown: Maha asks landlords to give tenants rent breather

Mumbai, Apr 17 () The Maharashtra housingdepartment has asked landlords to postpone rent recovery fromtenants for at least three months due to the lockdown for thecoronavirus outbreak.

In a circular issued on Friday, Additional ChiefSecretary (Housing Department) Sanjay Kumar also askedlandlords not to drive tenants out of their homes if they failto pay rents during the current period.

The official noted financial transactions have notbeen taking place across markets and factories due to thelockdown, and the this had a bearing on income and employmentof people.

"Several people are faced with difficult financialsituations. Large number of people are not able to pay theirregular rents. Hence, rent recovery should be postponed for atleast three months and no tenant be driven out for non-paymentof rent," Kumar said in the circular. ENMBNM BNM
