India’s ministry of road transport and highways and National Highways Authority of India ranked 219 highways across India.
The report said that in today’s era, National Highways are among the most important public assets in our country.
The rating exercise of highway corridors will provide an assessment of the current status of the level of services on the national highway stretches.
The 102.30 km long six-lane National Highway-48 linking Ahmedabad to Vadodara was ranked India’s best highway stretch.

In a recent report, the Union road ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) rated and ranked 219 national highways (NHs) across India, covering 18,668 kilometres.

Although highway ratings are conducted quite frequently around the world, it is the first time India has conducted such an exercise. The report said that in today’s era, National Highways are among the most important public assets in our country. Highway improvements bring immediate and sometimes dramatic benefits to highway users through improved access to hospitals, schools, industry and markets; improved comfort, speed, and safety; and lower vehicle operating costs.

“The rating exercise of highway corridors will provide an assessment of current status of level of services on the national highway stretches. This exercise will help in identifying the gaps in design, standards, practices, guidelines and contract agreements. Filling those gaps will ensure improved user experience and improved quality of highways,” the report added.

The 93 km long four-lane stretch of NE-1, linking Ahmedabad-Vadodara, bagged the title of India’s third-best highway stretch in terms of efficiency, safety and user services.

The IRB Infrastructure Developers built, 98 km long Solapur-Yedeshi section of NH-211 was placed fifth in the list of best highways by the Union road ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The highway stretch got an overall score of 89.2 out of 100 in terms of efficiency, safety and user services.

The 148 km long National Highway-48 linking Krishnagiri to Walajahpet was ranked India’s sixth-best highway stretch in terms of efficiency, safety and user services.

The NH-4 access-controlled highway, NH4, from Bangalore to Nelamangala, backed the eighth position in the ranking list after scoring 85.4 out of 100 in the Union road ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) report.

Hyderabad-headquartered Navayuga Road Projects built the highway.

NH-44 linking Islam Nagar to Kadthal

The National Highway-44 linking Islam Nagar to Kadthal sits at the ninth place among 219 highways stretches in India. The 53 km long highway scored 84.6 out of 100 in the Union road ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) report.

The highway was built by a joint venture formed between Patel Engineering and KNR Constructions.

NH-33 connecting Mahulia to Baharagora and Baharagora to Chichira

The National Highway-33 linking Mahulia to Baharagora and Baharagora to Chichira bagged the tenth position in the list of 219 highways stretches in India. The 71.6 km long highway scored 84.44 out of 100 in the Union road ministry and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) report.

Haryana-based Dilip Buildcon built the highway.
