A fake Twitter message claiming to have been written by British opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn was being shared on Twitter and WhatsApp following the aftermath of the Friday London Bridge knife attack, according to The Independent.
The fake tweet said: "A man was murdered by British Police in Broad daylight," faking Corbyn's disapproval of how British police handled the situation. The knife attacker was shot and killed by police.
The fake tweet being shared was a screenshot with no link to Corbyn's Twitter page or the tweet in question, which puts its veracity in question. There's no indication that Corbyn's Twitter account was hacked.
Conversely, Corbyn praises the police and its actions in a tweet posted from his Twitter account.
The British Labour Party confirmed to The Independent that the fake tweet was, indeed, fake.
Despite the Labour Party's claim that the tweet is fake, it continues to be shared on social media. Twitter and Corbyn didn't immediately respond for comment.
