Bodyguards helped Johnny Depp "get through crowds" outside the Grand Hotel in Birmingham, England, a person close to Depp told Insider after photos of him being escorted out of the UK hotel surfaced.

"There have been huge crowds around Johnny since he's been in the UK, and there have been a number of videos of security having to pull him away from different crowds or signing autographs for safety reasons. This was just a matter of helping him get through crowds," the person said Thursday.

Depp has been in the UK as he's currently on tour with Jeff Beck through July 25. The duo announced Thursday that they're releasing a 13-track album titled "18" on July 15.

In a press release announcing the album, Depp was described as a "kindred spirit" to Beck. Depp added in the release that "it's an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother."

While in the UK with the tour's performers and crew, the two rented out a 300-seat Indian restaurant, ordering champagne and cocktails, where they left behind a massive tip, Insider previously reported.

A Virginia jury issued a ruling last week in Depp's favor in his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp had accused Heard of defaming him in a Washington Post op-ed in which she described herself as a victim of domestic violence.

The jury awarded Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and another $5 million in punitive damages, though the punitive damages were lowered to $350,000 in accordance with the law in Virginia, where the trial took place.

Heard was also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages in her countersuit against Depp in connection to a comment made by Depp's lawyer who called her domestic-abuse allegations a "hoax."

The trial gained international attention, with clips going viral on social media, while the "Justice for Johnny" movement gained millions of views on both TikTok and Twitter.
