More suspected killers involved in assassination of Haitian president have reportedly been caught

A total of six suspects have been apprehended in connection with the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, the United Nations Special Envoy to Haiti said at a press conference on Thursday.

The police chief of Haiti, Léon Charles, said late Wednesday night that two people suspected of being involved in the assassination were arrested following a gun battle with police in which four suspects were killed.

UN Envoy Helen La Lime said another four suspects were apprehended on Thursday.

La Lime added that a large group of suspects have taken refuge in two buildings in Port-au-Prince and are surrounded by police.

Moïse was shot and killed by a group of armed assailants who stormed into his home at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Haitian first lady Martine Moïse was critically injured in the attack, officials said. She was airlifted to Miami, Florida for treatment for her gunshot wounds.

Interim Haitian Prime Minister Claude Joseph has not publicly identified the assailants, but he has said some of them spoke Spanish. The assassins reportedly posed at US Drug Enforcement Agency agents during the attack.
