Pakistan High Commission’s staffer detained for espionage, let-off due to diplomatic immunity

Delhi Police has detained Mehmood Akhtar, a Pakistani staffer working with Pakistan High Commission, for espionage.

As per the reports, Akhtar, 35, is Pakistan envoy Abdul Basit’s staffer and possessed highly classified army-related documents. The intelligence bureau had tailed him for weeks.

The staffer, however, has been released due top diplomatic immunity.


Pakistani envoy Basit has been summoned by the external affairs ministry, TV reports said.

A report has been sent the report on the high commission staffer to the external affairs ministry. . Crime branch officials have also briefed the Union Home Minister and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor.
