The arena, which will be built in the capital city of Doha, is designed to look like a traditional Arabian skull cap.
Qatar is pushing ahead with construction despite the sanctions imposed on the country by four of its Arab neighbors: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.
These countries accused the United States ally of supporting terrorism - a charge Qatar has denied.
