Someone at notoriously competitive New York City private school Horace Mann is out to ruin one student's college prospects by sending out nasty letters to a number of school's admissions offices, Daily Intelligencer reports.

In a letter sent to parents of Horace Mann students, the prep school's director of college counseling writes, "Someone in our community sent a letter about a current senior to a number of colleges with the goal of damaging that student's prospects for admission." No information was given about the nature of the letter or what schools it was sent to.

Horace Mann is conducting an investigation into the source of the damaging letters, and is working with the colleges to "minimize the damage," both to the student applicant and the school itself, it seems. As the letter reads:

The school is currently embroiled in a sex abuse scandal involving several abuse cases spanning decades.

You can see the full letter at Daily Intelligencer.
