South Korea's military says it has fired warning shots after Russian military planes entered the country's airspace on Tuesday.
South Korea's Defense Ministry says multiple Russian military planes violated its airspace off its east coast. The ministry says South Korea launched fighter jets and that they fired warning shots.
Chinese military planes also intruded into South Korea's aerial identification zone on Tuesday, according to the officials.
On June 20, two Russian aircraft also violated South Korea's air defense identification zone at around 3:37 a.m. local time, according to The Korean Herald. The air identification zone allows countries to have an early notification of what type of aircraft is approaching.
News of the Russian aircraft comes one month after Japanese military officials said two Russian TU-95 strategic bombers violated Japan's airspace.
One of the aircraft violated the country's airspace twice in one day, according to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty. The Japanese military claimed there were 340 incidents with Russian aircraft last year.
