The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that it will be bidding for an Olympic berth in Los Angeles 2028. Cricket was only played in the 1900 edition of the Olympics with Great Britain winning the gold medal.

The sport's inclusion in 2028 would mark the end of a 128-year absence. ICC chairman Greg Barclay said, “Cricket would be a great addition to the Olympic Games, but we know it won’t be easy to secure our inclusion as there are so many other great sports out there wanting to do the same.”

He also congratulated the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the people of Japan for staging such an incredible Games in such difficult circumstances. “It truly was fantastic to watch and capture the imagination of the world and would love cricket to be a part of future Games,” he added.

The ICC has also tweeted officially on its Twitter handle confirming its intention for bidding.

Cricket will also feature in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which might be a perfect showcase for what the sport can bring to the Olympics.
