REDRAFT: How the iconic 1996 NBA draft would play out today

Kobe Bryant was selected with the 13th overall pick, which the Lakers acquired from the Hornets.

In a re-draft, Bryant would go No. 1 overall. He became an MVP, five-time champion, 18-time All-Star, and 15-time All-NBA team member in 18 seasons. Bryant died in 2020.

Steve Nash was drafted by the Suns fourth overall.

Nash would go second today. The two-time MVP led the league in assists five times and made eight All-Stars. He's now the coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

Allen Iverson went No. 1 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a re-draft, Iverson would go third, narrowly behind Bryant and Nash. Iverson was an electric player who averaged 26.7 points per game for his career while winning MVP and making 11 All-Stars.

Ray Allen was drafted fifth overall by the Wolves, but was traded to the Bucks.

Allen would go fourth overall today. The all-time leader in three-pointers was a 10-time All-Star and two-time champion. He's now in the Hall of Fame.

Stephon Marbury was taken fourth overall by the Bucks, who then swapped with the Timberwolves for Allen.

Marbury would go fifth in the re-draft. His career started strong, averaging 20 points and 8 assists per game while making two All-Star Games between 1996 and 2004. He went on to have great success playing in China.

Jermaine O'Neal was selected straight out of high school by the Blazers with the 17th overall pick.

O'Neal went on to average 13 points and 7 rebounds per game over 18 seasons, making six All-Star Games in the process. He goes 6th today.

The Sacramento Kings drafted Peja Stojakovic with the 14th overall pick.

Stojakovic - a three-time All-Star sharpshooter who averaged 17 points per game on 40% three-point shooting - would go seventh today.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas was drafted by the Cavaliers with the 20th overall pick.

"Big Z" would go eighth today. He spent 12 of his 13 seasons in Cleveland, making two All-Star teams.

Marcus Camby was taken with the second pick by the Raptors.

Camby was a solid defensive center who won Defensive Player of the Year and made four All-Defensive teams, but second overall was a bit high. He would go ninth today.

The Celtics took Antoine Walker with the sixth pick.

Walker made two All-Star teams with the Celtics. He'd go 10th today, although his penchant for launching threes would make him an attractive player in today's game.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim was taken with the third overall pick by the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Abdur-Rahim, a solid scorer and rebounder, would go 11th today.

Kerry Kittles was drafted eighth overall by the Nets.

Kittles averaged 14 points per game over eight seasons and would go 12th today.

Derek Fisher was taken with the fifth pick by the Lakers.

Fisher is one of the great all-time role players, winning five championships with the Lakers. He would go 13th today.

Erick Dampier was taken 10th overall by the Pacers.

Dampier never made any All-Star games or put up big stats, but he had a long, solid, 16-year career that would make him the 14th pick today to round out the lottery.
